Fred Coulter Mr. Fred Coulter began his formal musical training at Interlochen National Music Camp, where he studied piano and composition for ten years. He later earned Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the University of Michigan, after which he continued his studies with post-graduate work at the Juilliard School of Music. Coulter resided in Paris, France for six years, during which time he concertized extensively throughout Europe. He has premiered works of Debussy, Boulez, and Stockhausen, and has made numerous national and international radio and television appearances. Mr. Coulter has been awarded honors such as Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Kappa Lambda. His name is listed in the "Dictionary of International Biography" and the "International Directory of Musicians." Mr. Coulter's scholarly pursuits have included public lectures and workshops under the auspices of the Ford Foundation, U.N.E.S.C.O., the Guy Maier Foundation, and the Music Teachers National Association. Fred Coulter is credited with over eighty extended works, among which are chamber music, orchestral compositions, electronic music, piano works, organ works, ballets, operas and award-winning film scores. He has taught in Michigan, New York City, The Ecole Normale in Paris, Kent State University, the University of West Florida, Wesleyan College, DeKalb Community College and the University of Miami. Students of Mr. Coulter's have won thirteen national and international competitions, including the Baldwin Piano Contest, the BMI Competition, and the Prix de Rome. His class of private students encompasses all ages and ranges from beginner to advanced. His studio offers private lessons in piano and composition, chamber music coaching, theory instruction, adult classes in music appreciation and master classers in performance techniques. The world premiere of Fred Coulter's opera buffa Purim Party--which was presented in the 2004-2005 performance season of the Riuniti Opera in Miami, Florida--was received with enormous public aclaim. Mr. Coulter's most recent composition will be premiered in February 2006 in Carnegie Hall, and his opera seria Urns, a dramaticul, will be presented in the Riuniti Opera 2006-2007 season. Mr. Coulter presently resides in Miami with his wife Beverly, Director of Opera and Musical Theatre at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida.
